La noche americana

‘La Noche Americana’ (The American Night) was the first Spanish production late night show broadcast live from a New York studio located at 49th Street and Broadway, in the very heart of Manhattan. Well, at least that’s what Ortega himself always said.

The show featured co-star Olimpia Fernández, a fantastic seventy-four-year-old woman who, working as a co-host and reporter, would hit the streets to cover all sorts of events, no matter how tough the interview was.

Each week the program had special guest star who “came all the way from Spain to the New York studio to be interviewed”.

Awaiting the guest throughout the interview were all sorts of unexpected and surprising questions, in a carefree atmosphere where the essential ingredient was humour.
