Over one decade ago, Gestmusic brought the first home video quiz to Spanish television. Based on the popular success of the North American channel ABC’s ‘The funniest home videos of America’, Gestmusic created ‘Betes i films’, a space for TV3 that achieved record audience levels in the two seasons it was on.

The home video tapes sent in by the public filled sacks and sacks of postbags that had to be classified and assessed. Naturally, only the best entered into the competition and it was the studio audience who decided which were the best of each section. There were sections covering children, animals, falls and other curiosities, all of them funny. A total of close-on one million pesetas was given in prize money each week and the very best videos went on to compete in the grand final.
There were several presenters who worked on the show, all of them top-class. There was a change every time a stage of the competition was passed, so that the presenters on the set were Mónica Randall, Angels Gonyalons, Mercè Arànega, Rosa Maria Sardà, Ariadna Gil, Carme Conesa and Xavier Sardà. The programme’s success was such that the format was sold to the entire FORTA.
