El Euro Debate

The El Euro Debate show was designed to help the citizens of Europe better understand the very complex reality of the European Union, the Europe of the Twenty-five, which Spain has formed a part of since 1986.

To do so, the show was designed as a debate, which was held during the Dutch presidency of the EU. In Holland, six speakers of different nationalities, which included Spanish European Parliament Representative Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, discussed the problems and the future of Europe. This is precisely what was offered on this one-hour show.

The debate touched on three topics of vital importance for all Europeans: international terrorism, Turkey’s admission into the European Union and member state foreign policy.

The show’s broadcast coincided with the start of the ratification process for the European Constitution. A referendum that began in Spain only two months after the debate was held.

The debate was moreover interactive, as television viewers were invited to answer some of the show’s questions about the European Union via telephone and text message.
