The excellent results of ‘Amor a primera vista’ on the autonomous channels encouraged TVE to get one of its studios in Sant Cugat to produce a version of the programme for the whole of Spain. In ‘El Flechazo’, every afternoon from Monday to Friday, potential sweethearts came together of all ages and from all over the country. On the programme, which began broadcasting in September 1997, couples were formed for all tastes and which lasted more or less time and, as in the first Amor a primera vista series, had to make the very most of a trip to get to know their new “other half”.
The effort made by the Gestmusic production team, who had to move the more than one thousand contestants appearing on the programme by land, sea and air, without them seeing each other before coming on the set, was compensated for by the programme’s great audience success. Another achievement of the programme was the choice of presenters, the actress Anabel Alonso –who led the programme until spring ’98– and Asunción Embuena, who replaced her later on. Both of them knew how to conduct the show with warmth and naturalness, a key to the success reflected in the audience figures: 23.5% share and nearly two million viewers.
