The programme presented by Bibiana Fernández on TVE had its predecessor in two galas on the same channel over Christmas during the 1994-95 season. The first one was presented by Miriam Díaz Aroca and directed by Pilar Zamora and the second had Ángeles Martín as presenter under the direction of Montse Claros. The performances of the comedians and their jokes were the central theme of these specials that had Jordi Vives as producer. Nevertheless, the ‘Muchas gracias’ of Bibiana also began its television life with a gala in February 1997. In this show, six new comedians were supported by well-known showmen, which also formed the jury to select the best artist. That success led to another show, in May, in which Marianico el Corto, Paco Aguilar, Marko the magician, Académica Palanca, the Dúo Sacapuntas, Jelly Rolls, Miguel Caiceo and Pedro Reyes all appeared. Later on, TVE commissioned Gestmusic to make a series of 13 programmes of the same name on a weekly basis.

The sparkling Bibiana Fernández was the presenter of one of Gestmusic’s programmes to discover new comedy talent. The set for the programme ‘Muchas gracias’, broadcast in prime time on the first channel of Televisión Española from May 1997, was the platform from which new comedians from all over Spain did their stuff.
In this competition for unknown comedians, the jokes and different gags revealed the talent of the six chosen who had to show their ability in making their fellow man laugh before the audience. The viewers and six uncompromising top comedians had to assess their skills. The best comedians from each show had the opportunity to share the stage with the professionals invited to the programme.
Chiquito de la Calzada, Marianico el Corto, Paco Aguilar, Pedro Reyes, the Dúo Sacapuntas, Jaimito Borromeo, Miguel Caiceo, Académica Palanca, Paz Padilla and Marko the magician made up the group of comedians entrusted to assess the aspiring comics and, naturally, pack the programme with jokes and laughter.
